60áwt% Ni/SiO2 catalysts prepared by co-precipitation and impregnation method have been compared in catalytic activity for selective ring opening (SRO) of methylcyclohexane (MCH). 2-methylhexane (2-MH), 3-methylhexane (3-MH) and n-heptane were produced from direct ring opening of MCH. Catalyst prepared by co-precipitation method shows much higher catalytic activity with conversion 82.6 and 84.3á% of ring opening products selectivity. The bifunctional 0.9áwt% Ir/USY as well as 0.9áwt% Ir/SiO2 catalysts were tested to find out ring opening reaction pathway and to understand the catalytic activity of transition metals and noble metals for the SRO of MCH. The active site evaluation has been done by using different characterization techniques such as, XRD, BET, TEM, SEM, XPS, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD and H2-chemisorption.
